Dot MOBI Domains

More and more people use mobile devices to access the World Wide Web, so the demand for mobile-friendly websites is steadily increasing. To fulfill this demand, the body that administrates the generic domain extensions, ICANN, introduced the dot MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were allowed in September 2006, and the intention behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it need to comply with certain requirements. In other words, all .MOBI websites must be developed to be accessed correctly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These involve how a site is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The restrictions have raised some questions taking into account that the top-level domain extension is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to open a website and the way in which this should happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be built in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of web browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Considering that the dot MOBI Registry does not offer domains directly, you can reserve a .MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours. If you have an already registered domain, you can also move it over to our firm if you obtain its EPP transfer authorization key from your current registrar company.
